This morning, December 24th, approximately 100 people, including family members of detained activists and community members, gathered in front of the Court of Appeal.
The group aimed to deliver a petition to call for the Court of Appeal to expedite the trials of the activists currently detained in Prey Sar prison CC1 and CC2. The petition also included 8 women who have been on hunger strike for 14 days since the 10th of December.
At approximately 8:30 am, family members and community activists were permitted to enter the Court of Appeal and deliver the petition. The Court of Appeal confirmed that 10 female activists in CC2 as well as Venerable Seng Hai in CC1 will be tried on January 22nd, 2015 at 2pm.
The gathering was observed by several dozen national military police officers and security guards, who were deployed at the Court of Appeal, despite the peaceful nature of the gathering. There was no clash with police officers and security guards.
