On Sunday morning, November 16th, hundreds of people gathered in front of Phnom Penh’s Prey Sar prison to demand the release of 17 incarcerated activists, monks and opposition members. The gathering took place outside correctional centers 1 and 2, and although the guards had set up barriers 20 meters away from the gates, there were no violent clashes with any of the guards.
During the gathering in front of CC2, Boeung Kak residents let some of the children of the detained land rights defenders speak out, asking for the release of their mothers. A number of monks were also part of the congregation. The crowd then marched to CC1. Yorm Bopha, in support of her fellow activists, mentioned that they would return each Sunday to continue demanding justice.
