7 women from the Boeung Kak community were arrested

On the 10th of November 2014, the Phnom Penh municipality arrested 7 women from the Boeung Kak community who were part of a demonstration against the unresolved flooding problem in their community. They were held in the Phnom Penh police station for 1 night.

On 11th of November, they were sent to the municipality court which, that same day, sentenced them to1 year in jail and a fine of 2 million Riel for violating Article 78 of the traffic law.

One monk, 3 more women from Boeung Kak, and Thmor Kol community were also arrested while protesting outside of the municipality court.

  1. The 3 community reps arrested yesterday are accused of insulting public and obstruction against public officials and Venerable Seung Hay who was defrocked yesterday is accused of carrying fake documents. All 4 people were interviewed by PP Municipal
    prosecutor until 12 30 PM today. Its unclear if they will be charged or tried this afternoon.
